Jed has been at his military annual training for three weeks now, so it's felt like a long time since we've been able to see him. This last Thursday was the day that training finally came to an end. The brigade also had planned a "Family Day" with activities, food, and a concert later that night. So we drove a few hours to meet Jed at the military base where he has been stationed at. We were all so excited to see him!
Dad!
Dad!
Since I don't have my military ID card yet, we had to park outside the base and have Jed come and get us.
It didn't take any time at all for Jed to already be kissing someone's owie - Ronin had accidentally slammed Aubrey's finger in the car door right before we saw him. Aubrey was in a lot of pain and still crying by the time she was in her daddys' arms.
Kissing the owie.
Jed drove us into the base where we parked at the barracks so we could pack up all of his clothes and equipment to take home. Since this is a "no female zone" Aubrey and I couldn't go with the boys.
Gathering up everything.
Ronin doing his best to help out.
This is heavy!
But I did it!
We're at an army base! Can't help but feel patriotic when you see stuff like this:
After everything was loaded, we headed toward the festivities. Jed's calling his soldiers making sure everybody knows what is going on.
Ready for a day of fun! (Even though it was a nippy and very windy day.)
Some of the members of Jed's squad.
Jed's brother, Joe, is also being deployed. So his family was there as well.
My sister-in-law, Julie, with some of her girls.
Julie giving Aubrey a hug.
Christiansen (the guy we went on the motorcycle trip with) was being interviewed by the news.
Jed and Joe decided to go behind the news reporter and start making faces at Christiansen to see if they could make him laugh during the interview.
Boy, they thought they were being so funny.
Jed and Joe - what a cool thing it is to be able to go to war with your brother.
I didn't know military bases had playgrounds for kids - fun!
Did I mention how windy it was?

Since Aubrey's finger was looking really bad, we went to find the base physician to have it checked out. We came upon a display area of tanks, trucks, and helicopters that the boys just had to check out. I stayed behind with the boys while Jed took Aubrey to the physician.
I am starting to think that I may need to get a few of these and put them in our backyard - can you imagine the hours of entertainment that these tanks and trucks would have for the boys? It would be perfect!
Time to get back to the festivities.
Playing on the inflatable toys.
Jed talking to Sergeant Drollinger - very cool guy. All I can say is that this man has done some great things for our country and has seen and done a lot.
A medic was able to take a look at Aubrey's finger and said that she could possibly have a small fracture, so she got her finger buddy-taped.

Jed with Captain Pruett.
There were thousands of soldiers and family members there.
Yep, very windy day.
Talking to Bonzon, Jed's former platoon sergeant.
They've become good friends.
Getting some face painting done.
Ronin wanted a dog.
and a bear.
Later on that evening we waited for the concert featuring the country singer, Darryl Worley. He was kind enough to come and do this right in the middle of his tour - his band drove all night to be here to play for the troups.
By this time the wind had died down and the evening turned out to be a beautiful night for a concert.
The Governor was there and gave us a speech.
Some Apache helicopters did a fly-by to start off the concert.
Darryl Worley!
He was great! He made some very sincere comments about his appreciation to the troups and said he was honored to be there to sing for us. During many of the songs, Jed and I just held each other and swayed to the music - along with many other soldiers and their sweethearts who were there. Many of his songs got me very teary-eyed at times.
I put a few of his songs on the blog - the words to his songs are heartfelt and hit close to home for us.
