Aubrey's Year End Music Concerts

Aubrey's had a busy week with music concerts.

Band Concert:

Wouldn't ya know, the microphone's batteries went dead during this song.  Fortunately, we were still able to hear Aubrey.  She did a really good job.  

Christmas Performances

Amongst all of the Christmas preparations prior to Christmas, we also had several concerts to attend.

 

Aubrey sang in "The Messiah" production with the high school orchestra and choirs along with several other talented individuals from the surrounding communities and colleges.

 

 

 

She was stoked to sing right next to her friend, Alexis, who is in the other choir.

 

Connor's Strings Concert -

Connor's teacher, Ariel, announcing the numbers.  She is one of Connor's favorite teachers.  She has a very outgoing and bubbly personality.

And she makes him laugh all the time.

Piano Recital -

On top of it all, Connor also had a piano recital.


This was his first performance under his new teacher, Mrs. Kearsley. He is doing very well under her instruction. She pushes him and even has it set up for him to play hymns during priesthood at church once a month. As much as he gripes about it all, it's really helping him progress.

It been a week of school performances.

Connor performing a Halloween number, "Bats and Bones."  This was his first performance playing the cello since he switched from the violin.  He was so excited to play for us this night.

Aubrey's 1st Singing Performance

For this school year, Aubrey decided she wanted to take singing lessons instead of ballroom.  So after just a few months of lessons, here is her very first singing performance back on Dec. 10, 2011: 



Her instructor, Danielle, told us that Aubrey is (by far) her most improved student.  We think so too!  She has come a very long way already from where she began.  Singing doesn't come as naturally to her as it does to some others, she's really had to work at it.  Also, Aubrey is not one to get up in front of people and be comfortable with all the attention on her.  It was a big deal just to see her stand in from of an audience and SING of all things!   We are excited to see her continue growing and learning with her new found interest.   :)

Summer Piano Recital

It's recital time.

We joined up with my friend, Rebekah, and her student, McKenzie, for a night of showing off what the kids have been working on this year.

Aside from niece, Kristine, my mother has been teaching all these grandkids to play piano.

Our audience this year was smaller compared to last year. It was hard trying to find a time when everybody could come.

 But Rigdon and his buddy more than made up for any lost company.

It was fun to have my nieces be able to participate this year.

Year End Spring Music Concert

You can always tell when school is getting close to being done when field trips and performances start popping up all at the same time.  May can be a crazy month.

Aubrey had her year end band concert this week.  I always look forward to hearing them and seeing how much they've improved from the year before.  Besides, I really appreciate this kind of music.  I learned to love classical music whiIe I played in concert band throughout my junior high and high school years.  It does my heart good to see my kids getting involved with music too.  I have to thank my mom for it, she made music an important part of my life...and now it's trickled down to my own kids.

Aubrey's gained a new group of friends this year, thanks to band class.

Which is really nice, because these girls have been really supportive of her when she's struggled with her dad being gone.  Unfortunately, some of her old friends made fun of her and weren't terribly understanding.  This made it even harder on her so the school year started out a bit rough but has ended on a happy note with sweet girls like these:
