Ronin's Baptism

When Ronin turned eight a few weeks ago, it didn't just mean being one year older. It also meant he was old enough to choose for himself to be baptized.
Eight is considered to be the age of accountability in our church. Ronin is now old enough to be responsible for himself - to know right from wrong and accept the consequences.

He's been excited about this moment since his seventh birthday.

Before the baptism was able to happen, Ronin had to be interviewed by the bishop of our ward.

During this meeting the bishop made sure that Ronin completely understood the promises/covenants he would be making and that he was ready for it.

Baptism day - June 4, 2011

Since Jed holds the priesthood, he was able to be the one to baptize Ronin, give him the gift of the Holy Ghost, and officially confirm him as a member of the the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

For those who are wondering why these two changed into these very cool and stylish white jumpers  :), it is because our baptisms are done by complete immersion under water.

This day was also an emotional one since many of our extended family had not yet seen Jed since he came home.

Mindy's parents, Carl and Judy.

Jed's mother.

Ronin with Bishop Andersen.

Aubrey with her cousins, Kristine from Arizona and Drewe from Florida.

Rigdon with his second cousins, Hudson and Carter.

Just waiting for a few more people.

My brother, Cory, and his wife, Lisa.

Jed's grandmother just lit up in seeing her grandson again.  They have a very close relationship.

After the baptism, we held a luncheon at my parent's house.

Digging in.

Ronin with his Great-grandparents, Don and Joan.

Jed with his best friend, Jake, from high school.

Congratulations Ronin on your choice to be baptized!  Dad and I are very proud of you.   You are a choice young man.

Quick story: Sister Banks, from our church, told me a funny story about Ronin this week.  Ronin is usually a reverent child in Primary.  He'll sing during the songs and participate in the lessons.  However, two weeks ago, Ronin was being unusually rowdy and loud.  Sister Banks ask him what was going on.  Ronin replied, "Well, I'm being baptized in two weeks and all my sins will be washed away."  This kid was living it up while he could!  :)
