Competition Results

Remember when Aubrey entered her "Does Partriotism Still Matter?" essay in a writing competition awhile back?  Well, we received an email a few weeks ago informing us that she had been chosen as one of the winners!  Needless to say, Aubrey was pretty excited about that and the rest of us were excited for her.

Her essay was then automatically entered into a district competition.  We were invited to a luncheon today held by the Veterans of Foreign Wars committee to find out what the essay results were.

Waiting for the event to begin and to start eating!

Cute placemats.

I like the Army "poppy."   But to be completely fair to Jed, I found a Marine one as well. :)

After the luncheon, the Commander began to speak about the essay competition.  He told us that out of the 750 entries, only 5% out of all of the area schools (which included several counties and schools) had been chosen to be winners at the "Post" level (which is what Aubrey won.)

As far as the District Competition results go, Aubrey, along with about 20 others, ended up placing with an Honorable Mention.  Then the 3rd, 2nd, and 1st winners were announced.  So out of 750 kids, her essay placed in the top 23 essays...way to go Aubrey!

Picking up her certificate:

The first place winner reading his essay to the congregation:

Congratulations Aubrey!
